The artists Sean Cordeiro and Claire Healy have a thing for classic horror films and uncanny landscapes. So, as part of their residency they hosted a screening of Aotearoa/New Zealand sci-fi thriller The Quiet Earth (1985) featuring Bruno Lawrence as Zac Hobson, a scientist and, man-alone in a deserted post-apocalyptic world. The films central tenets explore freedom and personal limits when the social world vanishes and when the only constraints that exist are your own. Zac, struggling with his isolation, while also endeavouring to retain his sanity, discovers he may not be so alone after all.
The Quiet Earth (1985) was directed by Geoff Murphy and has a cast that includes Aotearoa/New Zealand actors Bruno Lawrence, Alison Routledge and Peter Smith. The screenplay is by Bill Baer, Bruno Lawrence and Sam Pillsbury, and is based on the novel by Craig Harrison
