Artist Talk with visual artist Yasmine Attoumane

  • Alliance Française 78 Victoria Street Wellington, Wellington, 6011 New Zealand (map)

Join us for an artist talk by Yasmine Attoumane, the current artist in residence at Te Whare Hēra. Please note there is a capacity for this event, so register soon to reserve your place. Registration is absolutely essential. Tickets will close once we have reached capacity.

This event will conclude Yasmine’s time in Aotearoa, allowing an opportunity to reflect on the work she has achieved during her residence, and what will carry into her existing practice.

Yasmine Attoumane is a multi-disciplinary visual artist from Reunion Island. Her practice often includes performance, whilst using writing, storytelling, and photography to document these performances.

Since commencing her residency at Te Whare Hēra in February, Yasmine has worked closely and collaboratively with Te Awa Kairangi the Hutt River, and Owhiro Stream. Yasmine has taken part in stream restoration action alongside Friends of Owhiro Stream, and with Dr Huhana Smith in Kuku

Yasmine's artistic research aims to highlight the beliefs and rituals that influence our relationship with nature, as well as ecological concerns. The project combines various art forms, including writing, performance and photography.

Yasmine's approach is informed by her research into Te Ao Māori, and from her guidance by generous Massey staff. With the activation of knowledge of local geography and māturanga Māori, combined with her own cultural knowledge and methods of caretaking, she creates reciprocally with the awa she is making alongside.

We wish to thank those that graciously shared knowledge, conversation, connections, and resources with Yasmine throughout her residence.
