Te Whare Hēra is excited to welcome THEIA to the artist residency between the 15th of December 2023 until the 31st of January 2024.

Theia (Waikato-Tainui, Ngāti Tīpa) is a singer and songwriter from Aotearoa. She has been making music since 2016, when she emerged into the scene with her break-out hit Roam. 

Theia is also the recipient of the 2023-24 Mātairangi Mahi Toi Artist in Residence. While in residents at Te Whare Hēra, Theia will work on her award-winning project TE KAAHU. 

TE KAAHU honours the craft and skill of Māori songwriting and storytelling. Theia is a fierce proponent for the revitalisation of Māori language and culture, and through TE KAAHU she pays tribute to her tūpuna wāhine (female ancestors).
