Our given and inherited names invoke biographical, anthropological and whimsical narratives that transcend generations. They connect geography, history and symbolism influencing and giving the past a presence in our rich and manifold contemporary realities.

You are invited to share the story of your first and last name which Chloé, with your permission, will register in her collection with a view to it potentially becoming part of a sound piece or another form of Chloé Quenum artwork. Your name narrative will be recorded and filmed with the option of you being anonymous on film.

This workshop will run as an open studio: you are welcome to pop into the Te Whare Hēra Gallery anytime between 12 and 5 pm on the workshop day. This will also be a great opportunity for you to talk to Chloé about her work.

WHAT’S YOUR NAME? is the first iteration of Chloé Quenum’s workshop series to be completed as part of her residency at Te Whare Hēra. WHAT’S YOUR NAME? will be followed by FABLES and TATTOO workshops.
