Uruguayan artist Martín Sastre works in the spheres of film and contemporary art. His projects include the feature length musical Miss Tacuarembo (2010), and Diana: The Rose Conspiracy (2005), a short film about Diana, Princess of Wales who is found alive and well in Montevideo. Sastre also produced the multi-platform work U for Uruguay (2013) which was shown at the 2013 Venice Biennale alongside two other components - a video advertisement which played ironically with the imagery of luxury perfume campaigns and national pride, and a performative work that involved the actual making of a perfume extracted from flowers grown by the past president of Uruguay José Muljica. Muljica is considered by many as the “world’s most humble president”, gave away 90% of his income to the Uruguayan people.

Sastre is the founder of LALA Link Audiovisual Latino Americano an online platform for moving image collaboration. He is also involved with a campaign to save Uruguay’s Cinemateca (film archive), recently supported by Martin Scorcese.
Martín Sastre’s residency was supported by Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tamāki. For more information on Martín Sastre visit his website
